What Makes a Network Marketer an MLM Leader?

by Doug DeMercurio

What can a rookie network marketer do to become an MLM leader?

It’s interesting to look within a primary business and examine the MLM leaders in that company. The first thing you notice is that MLM leaders are not all alike, they can be very different.

Some MLM leaders are very charismatic. They are the ones who are always laughing and out front greeting everyone else. Other leaders are quiet, reserved. Even when you introduce yourself, they don’t seem to have much to say. So, what does that mean? Can anyone can become  an MLM leader or are there are distinguishing traits that set them apart, must-have qualities that they have in common?

So let me define what an MLM Leader is. My definition is someone who is making big money in the MLM industry, not the people who are making all the noise. I am talking about the people who do what needs to be done to make a profit, not the ones who just keep busy all the time. The true leaders are the ones who grow a team of profitable leaders under them. They are the leaders that are not only big earners, but are the top personal recruiters as well.

MLM leaders are not just the ones you see on stage.

Don’t get me wrong. The ones doing the training at international events are certainly leaders. But there are also those leaders who you only see listed in the printed reports. You would hardly even know them because they stay out of the spotlight. They fly under the radar. They just keep their focus on their business and their people. And often, they actually make more money than the leaders that you see on stage.

So is there anything MLM leaders have in common?

Yes, there is. They all understand that MLM is a numbers game. The more people you talk to, the more success you will have. The fewer you talk to the less you will earn. So MLM leaders are very good at evaluating people and creating relationships quickly. And they are good at recognizing leadership talent and developing quality leaders on their team. They are leaders because they are not afraid of the word “no”. In fact, they collect “nos” as fast as they can, to get to the “yeses” . It’s well known that the majority of your contacts will not join your business opportunity. If you want to be a leader, you must learn to meet and greet quickly. Spend a little time with a lot of people, not a lot of time with a few.

MLM leaders are like spiders.

Have you ever observed a spider? They spin their web, and let their prey come to them. Spiders do not run around chasing anything. Leaders are like that. They become masters of their trade in a way that attracts others to them. Generally, you have to qualify to be considered for their business opportunity.  They sort prospects, they don’t chase them. Rarely do they sell. Leaders develop relationships instead.

And MLM leaders know how to create MLM lead generation systems. It doesn’t matter what business you are in, your customer list is your biggest asset, and it’s no different  in the Network marketing industry. Lead generation systems keep leaders from getting emotional about prospect decisions because they generally have more people to talk to than they have time.

So what do MLM leaders have in common? They generate more leads than everyone else, and they talk to more people than anyone else. If you want to be an MLM leader, then do what MLM leaders do.
